Chamber’s Nuclear Generation Working Principles:
The Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce recognizes the challenges of our nuclear electricity generation plants throughout the Commonwealth and the role they play in a comprehensive electricity generation strategy.
We believe nuclear energy must continue to be a viable, alternative energy source, therefore we support the following:
· That a diverse mix of generation fuels is the best strategy for our Commonwealth and the PJM Interconnection service area.
· Keeping electricity costs competitive to assist in economic development. As a net exporter of electricity Pennsylvania attracts business due to low energy rates.
· PJM market mechanisms that would better compensate nuclear generation for the value it provides in being reliable and carbon free.
· Full transparency from nuclear generation plants on re-investment, safety and profitability.
OBJECTIVE: To develop, coordinate, and advance long term economic-sensitive strategies for sustainable energy efficiency initiatives, environmental protection and infrastructure development that will improve the economic climate and quality of life for businesses and people of the Lehigh Valley.
STRATEGY: Educate and engage the business community and partner with local, state and federal organizations in promoting sound sustainable energy policies, environmental protection and infrastructure.
