Marcellus Shale Policy (October 2011)

Objective: To develop, coordinate, and advance long term business-sensitive strategies for sustainable energy efficiency initiatives, environmental protection and infrastructure development that will improve the business climate and quality of life for business owners, employees and their families in the Lehigh Valley.

Strategy: Educate and engage the business community and partner with local, state and federal organizations in promoting sound sustainable energy policies, environmental protection and infrastructure.

Action Items:

1. Survey small businesses to identify energy & environmental issues they are not aware of which will make their businesses more energy and environmentally friendly
2. Develop a communications strategy
   • a. Training session for the Committee
   • b. Chamber website page with information
     • Highlight success stories – competition? Stamp or sticker recognition?
     • Give energy-saving tips
3. Work with local, state and federal officials to educate the business community on alternative energy options and available incentives
   • Evaluate the use of webcasts for training/education sessions
4. Partner with energy auditors to assist member businesses in achieving their sustainable energy goals
5. Influence local, state and federal entities to promote energy, environment, infrastructure and green policies that are business sensitive
