Dear (Your Legislators' Names - please use the link above)
As a member of the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce, it is with a great
sense of urgency that I write to you concerning three specific road projects in
the Greater Lehigh Valley.
It is likely you and your constituents will benefit from the completion of these
projects as they are vital to commerce in the Lehigh Valley and will assist economic
growth. Getting these three road projects completed is a top priority for The Chamber.
The Chamber is pro-actively educating and engaging the community to advocate for
the necessary completion of these projects.
The first is the Route 22 Tomorrow improvements on section 400 of the highway
between 15th Street and Airport Road. This highway is the “main street” of the Lehigh
Valley and it is in need of a complete rehabilitation. The interchanges are substandard
and the bridge over the Lehigh River is in need of major repairs. By widening and
modernizing Route 22, we will have fewer fatalities and injuries, and better traffic
flow resulting in less congestion, wasted energy, time and less environmental impact
from vehicle idling. Route 22 is and will continue to be the Lehigh Valley’s most
important highway.
Our second priority is the Route 412 project. Some repairs continue to take place
with the development of the Sands Casino and an Industrial Park. However, it is
imperative that the necessary improvements and repairs on Route 412 are adequately
funded.
The third vital project for the Lehigh Valley is the completion of the American
Parkway, including the American Parkway Bridge over the Lehigh River. This project’s
completion will also greatly benefit the economic development and improvement of
the Lehigh Valley.
These three initiatives are vital to the economic prosperity of the Lehigh Valley.
They provide access to key employment centers across the region. In order for the
Lehigh Valley to maintain its livability and economic viability, these improvements
must be implemented as soon as possible. We, therefore, assert that funding these
projects must now become your highest-level priority in order to ensure the continuing
economic vitality of the Lehigh Valley and that your votes in the creation of the
2009-2010 budget reflect that commitment to the Lehigh Valley.
Thank you very much for your attention to these matters.
Sincerely,
